Named after a song bird that prevails in Israel, the Efroni Choir was founded in 1981 in Emek-Hefer (Heffer Valley) by Mrs. Maya Shavit, who served for over thirty years as the artistic director and conductor of this representative choir. Throughout its 39 years, the choir has achieved impressive achievements, and is today considered one of the leading children's and youth choirs in Israel. In September 2017, Mrs. Shelly Berlinsky was appointed choir conductor.
Listening, tolerance and contributing to the community are some of the core values that the Efroni Choir has been promoting, driven by the belief that poetry is a force that connects people and forms a bridge between cultures. We initiate and hold musical encounters between populations with special needs and the choir singers, at which we can see the partitions between these groups and their people fall away leaving nothing, but pure heart-to-heart music.
