About the choir
About the Efroni choir
The Efroni choir was founded in 1981 in Emek Hefer by Maya Shavit, who served as an artistic director and conductor of the representative choir for over 30 years. Over the course of its 40 years of existence, the choir’s accomplishments were impressive, and it is considered one of the leading youth choirs in Israel.
The choir is composed of six bodies, which include more than 100 singers from Emek Hefer and its surroundings. During rehearsals, the choir’s singers learn an extensive song repertoire, along with voice training, solfege and music theory, get acquainted with body movement, acting, and fine arts. They go through an all-inclusive, empowering, cultural and artistic experience.
The choir is often invited to perform with the most eminent orchestras in the country such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Israeli Opera, as well as top Israeli artists such as Yoni Rechter, Shlomi Shaban, Amir Dadon, and others. The choir often goes on tour abroad, including festivals. It plays an active role in the community life, contributing significantly to it.
In 2012, the choir won the Mifal Hapayis Performing arts prize in memory of Landau.

That evening, on stage, the Efroni choir brought a breath of holiness over a mesmerized audience. The precision of these youngsters is close to perfection and reaches the highest existing standards. It seems that even among the gigantic samples bank of my studio, where tens of choirs are sampled, part of them pertaining to renowned churches around the globe, there is no other choir that reaches such level of precision. The harmony, excellence, and complicated arrangements, turned the choir’s members into a heavenly component, and gave a whole new meaning to the saying “Singing angels”.

Our vision
The Efroni choir has high artistic standards, and aspires to keep being a leading choir for children and teenagers alike.
Acting as a sanctuary to Israeli production, the choir works with leading artists and musical entities. It represents the Emek Hefer regional council as well as the State of Israel nationally and abroad.
The Efroni choir works to develop the musical talent of its singers by providing them with knowledge and skills, and exposing them to a variety of musical genres, traditions, languages, and cultures while, at the same time, deepening ties with their Israeli-Jewish cultural heritage. This is done in an effort to nurture the future generation of creators and consumers of culture alike.
The choir strives to give its singers a cultural experience that is rooted in creation, pleasure, and contentment while promoting responsibility, partnership, openness, friendship, in parallel with personal development and finding each and every singer’s uniqueness.
As a choir rooted in the Israeli sociocultural way of life, one of the goals of the Efroni choir is to contribute to the community and take significant part in it. With children and youngsters coming from all social backgrounds and being exposed to music and choir singing, the choir sees it as an educational tool to form friendships across the different strata of the Israeli society.
The people behind the scenes
The Efroni choir is a non-profit run by volunteers and committee members. The management is composed of individuals with key positions and senior-level roles, who willingly contribute to educating the future generation of music and culture advocates.
We thank them and admire their important and blessed work, and we would like to thank the entire community of volunteers who surround us every step of the way.
